My vacation goals
I have over a month of vacation starting this week. Thats a lot of time, unlike some others I know, I will not be returning home, nor will I be leaving the country. Christmas and new years will be spent with family that are coming to visit me. Still that leaves of month of well me time. My goals during the vacation are:
-Read for fun at least three books
-Think about what I want to write my thesis on
-Take more pictures and develop my film
-With friends explore the 50 something Downtown bars that serve Stella, Egypt's National Beer.
-Go to the Nile Hilton Before it gets torn down.
-Update the blog layout, see if i can figure out how to work iweb through wordpress.com.
-Travel within Egypt to Alexandria especially.
-Lose the weight I gained while writing my million papers during the last two weeks
-Learn Arabic through a class
-Practice my French
-Find and apply to internships for the summer

Yes it has been a long time
I am sorry to all my dedicated fans, but I have been very busy since before thanksgiving, with an on slot of papers, presentations and work. I have not had literally anytime to post or reflect on my life here. I will summarize my last month as nothing outstanding. I celebrated Thanksgiving quietly with a couple friends at my apartment. We then walked through Garden city a neighborhood close to mine and made ourselves at home for a drink at some luxury hotel. Our meal consisted of rotisserie chicken, cause making turkey yourself is a pain in the ass, bean green casserole, stuffing/dressing, potatoes au gratin and the best homemade sangria ever!
Since Thanksgiving there was lock down basically all I did was study and write papers.

El-Horreya
El- Horreya meaning freedom is a cafe in my neighborhood that serves a rather eclectic cliental, a mix of Egyptians, students, and other random foreigners. Once coming here you will understand the name. They serve beer, which Islam forbids due to its alcohol content. Women can be seen here alone without hassle. It isn't your typical Egyptian cafe, but its authentic in its own way. They also serve tea, coffee, assorted sodas and these beans that I can not begin to identity or describe.
